As each child enters the Colori workshop their photo is taken; it is then 'pixelized', printed in colour and given back to them. It seems the computer has created an abstract portrait, sometimes only of the eyes or the mouth, in small cubes that reveal the colours hidden in the face. From there children are free to create their self-portrait using different drawing and painting techniques, taking inspiration from the computer portrait. Some of the techniques are: collage, square stamps of different sizes with tempera colors, coloured papers cut into cubes, colored pencils, chalk and more. In Colori children explore colour relationships in both physical and digital form as well as different artistic techniques. |
