Drawing a portrait together in a remote creative dialogue.

Drawing someone’s portrait is a complex task. It requires looking at them in a fresh way, creating an understanding of shapes, colors, forms; then transferring these understandings to marks on paper. In Dialogo Disegnato, the act of drawing a portrait becomes a collaborative effort distributed between two remote spaces. In one space, a selected child is verbally described by his or her friends. This sonic description is transmitted to the second space, where other chidren try to draw a portrait only according to it. As the image is being drawn, it is projected back onto the first space, creating an ongoing dialog between image and words.

In Dialogo Disegnato children explore looking and describing, listening and understanding.
